The little block at the end of your article that tells about who you are as a writer and where readers can get more information is often an afterthought. Most of us barely take the time to proof the words that we write for this author block, especially since no one is going to read it anyway.

The truth is that the author block is one of the best marketing tools that freelance writers have in their arsenal. It is your chance to tell the readers exactly what you want them to know about you but you can also take it to the next level.

  • Increase your place as an expert in the field. Tell the readers what else you have done to make you the person to turn to for this subject or other related subjects.
  • Bring more traffic to your websites. Include links or call for actions that will encourage readers to visit your blogs, other guest postings or your business website.
  • Write in third person. It makes the author block seems as though it is written by an unbiased third party AND more importantly it allows you to detach from the writing so that you can sell yourself as well as you would sell any other client.
  • Use your keywords and keyword phrases in the author block to help increase your page rank for the words. Making the keywords the clickable text for your links will make even more of an impression on the search engines.

Writing an author block is tricky for many people. It seems like bragging or self-promotion – which it is. Becoming a successful freelance writer REQUIRES some boasting. A great author block is one of the best tools that you have to promote who you are, what you do and where you do it.
